The 26-item Toronto Alexithymia
Scale (TAS) was developed in 1985 as the first reliable and valid
self-report measure of the alexithymia construct. It was modified in 1992
to develop a revised and improved twenty-item version, which is called the
Twenty-Item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20). The TAS-20 has become the
most widely used measure of the alexithymia construct. Articles reporting
the development and psychometric properties of the TAS-20 are listed on
the Recent Publications page of this website.
Investigators are encouraged to use the TAS-20 in their research on the
alexithymia construct. A package containing a master copy of the scale,
scoring instructions, reliability, validity, and normative data can be
obtained upon payment of a copyright fee of US$40.00 or CAN$50.00. Cheques
should be made payable to the Department of Psychiatry, Mount Sinai Hospital
and sent to the attention of Dr. Graeme J. Taylor at the following address.
Unfortunately we are unable to process credit card payments at this time, nor can we accept payment by electronic bank transfer.
For faster delivery, please include your email address with your cheque
and the package will be sent as an attachment file.
